Computer Gaming vs Console Gaming

When you take a look at computer games versus the most recent batch of next generation video console games - as in the PS3, the Xbox 360 and the Wii - there are some vast differences in both features and superlatives, such as graphics, and the overall cost of playing the games. Let's not forget that most video console games are ready to play, or really plug-and-play, whereas computer games tend to require lengthy installation. For instance, when you purchase a computer game, you have to install it to your hard drive, and you have to ensure that your computer meets the technical requirements in order to play.

Speaking of technical requirements, that's where a large portion of the cost can be factored. PC games generally cost about the same as video console games do. However, it's the high end graphics card, the sound card and any customized USB controllers that can cost you some serious dough.

Most video graphics cards for gaming can run a few hundred dollars or more, about the cost of getting your hands on a next-gen video game console these days.

But, the overall experience that one gains when playing computer games is far superior to that of game consoles. A good example can be found in a popular game called Elder Scrolls: The Oblivion. The game is out for PS3, Xbox 360 and the PC. It's great on all platforms, and there are not many noticeable differences that you will see in the graphics.

On a PC, however, there are nearly endless customized boards that other PC gamers have created, which you can generally download and install for free to enhance your gaming experience. Similarly, the added gaming packs, like Shivering Isles, can be bought and installed on both platforms.

The real difference is that hardcore gamers may appreciate PC games over the latter. This is because they offer more controls - as in the entire keyboard - superior graphics, provided you have a quality graphics card, and more add-ons. But for most gamers who just want to pop a game disk in and get to the action, video game consoles will forever be their mainstay.
